Nominate yourself for the next GWIS leadership team!

Are you interested in making an impact in STEM outreach in the Triangle area in North Carolina? Then you might be just the person GWIS Research Triangle is looking for to be a part of the 2019-2020 GWIS RT Leadership Team! 

Make a difference! Volunteer for a 1 year term! Serving as an Officer for GWIS Research Triangle helps you develop leadership skills and build professional networks, which can make all the difference when you are on the job market! It is also an excellent opportunity to get more involved in your community and help make science more accessible and exciting.  

We are currently seeking nominations for the following officer positions. Fill out the nomination form after the position descriptions to nominate yourself. The last date to fill this form is Friday, May 3, 2019.


  • Develop chapter goals and provide direction
  • Maintain communication and coordinate activities with outside groups
  • Schedule and lead monthly officer meetings
  • Update Research Triangle website with chapter and outside events
  • Send monthly email to listserv with upcoming events
  • Send reminder emails of upcoming events
  • Lead and organize 2 events per year

Vice President- 

  • Manage and coordinate with Secretary, Treasurer, and Liaison to ensure task completion
  • Fill in for President at events or meeting when necessary
  • Assist with website and/or monthly emails
  • Lead and organize 2 events per year


  • Take minutes during officer meetings and email within typed notes within 2 days of the meeting
  • Continually update Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn pages with upcoming events
  • Draft chapter updates with National
  • Lead and organize 2 events per year

Membership Secretary – 

  • Add new email addresses from Research Triangle gmail contact lists (iContact)
  • Lead and organize 2 events per year
  • Lead membership drive (counts as 1 event)


  • Receive chapter dues from National and deposit into Research Triangle (Rho Tau) account
  • Collect receipts and send reimbursements within 2 days of receiving receipts
  • Maintain BB&T bank account status
  • Lead and organize 2 events per year
  • Lead and organize yearly fundraiser as required (counts as 1 event)

Liaison to National Chapter-

  • Participate in National meetings (via phone or in person) and report back to Research Triangle officers
  • Lead and organize 1 event per year

Collaborations Coordinator-

  • Work with the President to reach out to and maintain relationships with various organizations and institutions in the Triangle Area, especially for partnerships
  • Lead and organize 1 event per year
